Today, 1 in 5 post-menopausal American women takes Hormone Replacement Therapy. HRT is most often prescribed to alleviate the symptoms of menopause, including hot flashes, vaginal dryness, sleep disturbances and mood swings. And although HRT might be appropriate for some in this situation, Dr. Bibbins-Domingo, professor of medicine and of epidemiology and biostatistics at the University of California, San Francisco, reports that the risks for most women taking HRT long-term outweigh any benefits.
Also included in the findings of Bibbins-Domingo, there is limited evidence that estrogen and progestin do help prevent bone fractures. It is also noted that estrogen and progestin increase the risk of stroke, thromboembolisms (blood clots that dislodge and move through the circulation system), gallbladder disease, and urinary incontinence.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has known since the mid 70's that estrogen causes cancer, knowing this surely the benefits do not outweigh the risk.
Do not panic, because there are many natural, holistic options that are very effective in controlling the symptoms of menopause!
First, it is important to follow an anti-inflammatory food diet. You can find a list of anti-inflammatory foods on my blog. Second, utilize a supplement to support your liver. Often times, the conjugation of hormones on top of the toxins that your liver has been filtering for 50 years is just too much for your liver to handle. Women with congestion of the liver will tend to wake up in the middle of the night between 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 am.
Supplements will help, but it is important that you to see a licensed health care practitioner when you begin to take supplements. At my practice, Health Pyramid Longevity & Vitality Center, we utilize a rhubarb extract called Estrovera and have seen great success. (In fact, I also take this.) Estrovera is available on my website or you can call my office at 724-295-2100 and we will be happy to ship it directly to you. We also have natural support for sleep, bloating and most conditions that you’d be better off controlling naturally. When a targeted nutrient can enhance your health at the cellular level and alleviate your symptoms with zero side effects then it is the obvious best choice!
So, no matter what you are dealing with, always try a natural approach. You'll be pleased with how targeted nutrients can help you with any condition from menopause to IBS to MS. Make a holistic approach a part of, if not your main focus of support.

How do children benefit from chiropractic care? The answer is simple. The same way you and I do: with an interference free system! This will give their body the best chance at growing and developing to their full potential. The nervous system is the FIRST thing to develop when sperm and egg meet--it’s that important! It runs everything in our bodies and controls development from conception throughout an entire life. It controls all of our other body systems as well, including the circulatory system, the digestive system, the reproductive system...the list goes on and on! It is critical that in the early stages of development that all children perceive the world clear of interference which lays down the foundation for the developing nervous system. The most common form of nerve system interference occurs when one of the bones of the spine, pelvis or cranium misalign creating swelling and pressure on the delicate nerves as they exit between these bones that surround them. This misalignment is called a subluxation.
So, when does the first subluxation occur? Pulling, forcing, and twisting the baby from the birth canal are all too common in births. Even in a natural, gentle entrance into the world, the journey down the birth canal puts enough strain on the body to cause a subluxation. Interference may show up immediately in symptoms of colic, colds, visual tracking problems, ear infections, asthma, bed-wetting, allergies, and so on. They may show up months later, or it may take years. It does not matter how much time it takes for symptoms to appear; there may have always been interference...you just didn’t know it!
Subluxations that occur at birth cause interference in the system from the moment of the baby’s first breath--think of all the development that still needs to take place from birth throughout life! That is why it is crucial to get your child’s spine checked as early in life as possible. Symptoms are the last thing to be expressed, telling us that there is and has been underlying interference in the body. The chiropractor is not treating these symptoms but is instead reducing nerve system stress which allows the body’s natural healing potential to function at its best.
If it has been a while since your child has gotten his or her spine checked, make an appointment today. If your child has yet to get checked for nervous system interference, then please don’t delay. They deserve the opportunity to experience a fully expressed life! Call 724-295-2100 today and your child’s first examination will be on us!
We look forward to serving your family and friends in our office.
